UK intelligence on Thursday said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine "has largely stalled on all fronts."
The UK's Ministry of Defence tweeted the update, which said that "Russian forces have made minimal progress on land, sea or air in recent days and they continue to suffer heavy losses."
"Ukrainian resistance remains staunch and well-coordinated. The vast majority of Ukrainian territory, including all major cities, remains in Ukrainian hands," it added.
Russia started its full invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
It has since seized some areas in the east of Ukraine and has shelled cities, including the capital, Kyiv, and has hit civilian targets.
American intelligence estimates that more than 7,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.
Military analysts and Western government officials broadly agree that Russian fell far short of its aims in the early days of the war.
As Insider's Sam Fellman wrote on March 11, Russia's appeared to expect Ukrainian resistance to crumble almost immediately, allowing them to oust the government in a few days with little loss of life.
Instead, key cities like Kyiv, Kharkiv and Mariupol have withstood weeks of artillery bombardment and air strikes, while the Ukrainian military has managed to confine Russian troop to relatively limited advances.
However, analysts Fellman spoke to warned that the longer Russia fails to make progress in its invasion, the more likely its commanders are to turn to use ever-greater firepower and indiscriminate weapons hoping to crush Ukrainian morale.
